DIAMOND EDUCATION

Diamond ring shopping can be one of the most exciting and joyous purchases that you will ever make. However, if you aren’t properly educated beforehand, it can be an intimidating experience. One of the things that we pride ourselves on at Mr.goldman Jewelers is that we believe it is imperative to not only give our customers a superior and wide selection of diamond rings, but that it is equally important that we take the time to educate our clients on the quality of diamond being viewed.

For many people, the terms cut, color, clarity and carat don’t really mean a whole lot. Most people assume that the bigger the diamond is, the more that it is worth. While that is true to a certain degree, there are three other primary factors that influence the overall price and value of the diamond. This brings us back to the four C’s: cut, color, clarity and carat.

Cut of Diamond

When you hear the term “cut” of diamond, many people automatically assume that this refers to the shape of the diamond. This is a very common misconception. The cut of the diamond does not refer to the shape, but how the diamond is cut within the actual shape. Of the four C’s of diamonds, it is often thought that the cut is the most important. This is because a diamond that is not cut properly can end up looking like a piece of glass with no brilliance and no fire. A diamond that has a very good cut will sparkle and shine – hence the reason why the cut is so important.

Color of Diamond

The term “color” of diamond refers to the actual color of the diamond itself. Contrary to what many people believe, even supposedly “white diamonds” can have a tint of color to them. Typically, the “fancy colored” diamonds are much more expensive than the traditional white diamonds, therefore the majority of people shopping for diamonds choose to go with the white diamond variety. As a general rule of thumb, when it comes to white diamonds, there should be as little color as possible. The presence of any color in a white diamond will ultimately drop the overall value and price.

Clarity of Diamond

Diamonds are a natural material – which means that they are prone to imperfections or flaws. When looking at a diamond, it is essential to consider the clarity of the diamond. A diamond with visible flaws will be significantly less valuable than a diamond with no visible flaws.

Carat of Diamond

The size of the diamond (which is referred to as the carat) refers to the actual dimensions and weight of the diamond. And yes, gentleman, size matters here. Typically, if the budget is the issue, one can compromise on the cut, color and clarity in order to get a larger carat. However, as you already know, this is a delicate balancing act.

One of the things that delight us the most at Mr.Goldman Jewelers, is that because of our reputation and the relationships that we have built in the industry, we are able to obtain a tremendous discount on all of our merchandise. This is a discount that we pass on to our clients. As a result, many people come to Beverly Hills Jewelersexpecting to be able to purchase a single carat diamond, but find themselves walking out with a two carat diamond ring or larger for the same price.
